Yeah I really don't get it, Viagra

This is about the dozenth or so Viagra ad I've seen which suggests that the way men get themselves in the mood for sex is to spend a long period of time away from women.  They all end the same way- the guy comes home from a long day of Not Being With a Female ready for sex because....well, because not being around females got him hot, I guess.

And of course the Little Lady is ALWAYS ready for sex.  She's just waiting for you to finish fishing or sailing or herding cattle or driving your truck through mud or whatever you are doing to get yourself excited.  Boy she sure picked a winner, didn't she?

What am I missing here?

  1. Away from women, eh? Maybe he needs a Viagra to be with a woman. Maybe if he spent a little MORE time with men, he wouldn't need it, if you get my drift. Of course, he wouldn't be with the woman at all then....Perhaps the slogan should read "Viagra: it keeps you straight." Or maybe "Viagra: Stay in the closet forever."

  2. I'm just gonna hazard a guess here and say that the whole point of this particular series of Viagra ads is that they are trying to avoid damaging the egos of their potential market too much by dancing around the issue of why a guy has to take Viagra in the first place. In short, let's not have any women or sex or anything in the ad. Let's just pose the whole "ED" issue as simply being another matter of a man knowing what to do when there's a problem with anything...he solves it. You'll notice that in each of these ads something goes wrong or malfunctions, and the Man analyzes the situation a few moments and then he fixes it. Message? Your, um, well, you know, is just another piece of equipment that may malfunction, as equipment of any kind is wont to do. If you're a manly man, you won't get all emotional over it; you will just regard it as a problem for your manly self to fix, and you will fix it. With our product, of course. So you can still feel like a man if that part of you malfunctions and you need our product, because Manly Men are Problem Solvers.

Hell, at least they stopped the "Viva Viagra" nonsense. Talk about ruining a perfectly good Elvis song.

I guess in my mind the bar is set pretty low for ED drug ads. This series manages not to offend me out the door with the tackiness of its message, at least, Meanwhile, the Cialis couples are still in separate bathtubs, and why? If I didn't know better, I'd think Cialis was bubble bath. And I'll never forget those long-ago ads for Levitra that featured some well-known quarterback (whose identity I have mercifully forgotten) communicating the message of what the product was for by...throwing a football repeatedly through a tire swing. Paging Dr. Freud.

  3. I love how in the one where the guy's Mustang runs out of coolant the guy buys a bottle of water to put in the radiator instead of buying a BOTTLE OF COOLANT from the gas station.
